Basavakalyan is one of the five talukus of Bidar district, which is located at far north-east of Karnataka. When you travel from Mumbai to Hyderabad by National highway No.-N.H-9, and cross Maharastra border and get into Karnataka, this is where Basavakalyan province starts. Basavakalyan town is approximately 17 Kms from this border, on the highway. Hyderabad is approximately 180 Kms from this town.

Before India's Independence, Basavakalyan was called Kalyan. After independence and division of states on linguistic basis in 1956, Kalyana was renamed as BasavaKalyana in memory of Vishwaguru Basavanna, a great revolutionary who established Anubhava Mantapa(Spiritual democarcy) in 12th Century in India.

Basavakalyana was ruled by Wetern Chalukyas, Kalachuris, Yadavas of of Devagiri, Bijapur Sultanate, Bahamani Sultanate(Bidar,Gulbarga), Mughals, Hyderabad Nizams.

Basava (also known as Basavanna (Kannada: ಬಸವಣ್ಣ) or Basaveshwara (Kannada: ಬಸವೇಶ್ವರ ), (1106-1167)) was a philosopher and a social reformer. He fought against practice of caste system and rituals in Hinduism. He is also called as Vishwa Guru and Bhakti-Bhandari. His teaching and preachings go beyond all boundaries and are unviersal and eternal. He was a great humanitarian. Basava advocated a new way of life wherein the divine experience was the centre of life giving equal opportunity to all aspirants regardless of the gender, caste, and social status. The cornerstone behind his movement was the firm belief in a universal concept of God. Basava has a proponent of monotheistic  concept of formless God.

A true Visionary with ideas ahead of his time, he envisioned a society that flourished enriching one and all. In addition to being a greatg mystic, Basava was the prime Minister of the Southern Kalachuri Empire in South India and originated a literary revolution by introducing Vachana Sahitya. Basava is said to have been a  mystic by  temperament, an idealist by choice, a statesman by profession, a man of letters by taste, a humanist by synpathy, and a social reformer by conviction. Many great yogis and mystics of the time joined his movement enriching it with the essence of divine experience in the form of Vachanas(Lit. sayings- sacred hymns in Kannada) that define a new way of looking at God and Life.

Basava's path later gave birth to a new religion (or "Sampradaya") called Lingavanta Dharma or Lingayata. Other synonyms for lingayata are : Basava Dharma, Sharana Dharma, Vachana Dharma.

 ದಿನಾಂಕ:15-08-2010ರಂದು ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ  ನಗರಸಭೆವತಿಯಿಂದ 64ನೇ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರೋತ್ಸವ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆ     ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ವಿಜ್ರಂಭಣೆಯಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಮುಂಜಾನೆ 8-30 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಶ್ರೀ ಗೋಕುಳಸಿಂಗ್ ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರ ರವರಿಂದ, ನಗರಸಭೆ ಕಛೇರಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ 8-35 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ.ಗುರುರಾಜ ಶಾಶೆಟ್ಟೆ ನಗರಸಭೆ ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ರವರಿಂದ, ನೆಹರು ಚೌಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 8-50 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಶ್ರೀ ರವಿ ಚಂದನಕೇರೆ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು, ನಗರ ಯೋಜನಾ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ರವರಿಂದ, ಗಾಂಧಿ ಚೌಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ      9-00 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಶ್ರೀ ಬಸವರಾಜ ಪಾಟೀಲ್ ಅಟ್ಟೂರ ಸನ್ಮಾನ್ಯ ಶಾಸಕರು ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ರವರಿಂದ, ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ     9-10 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಡಾಃ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ ವೃತ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ರವಿಂದ್ರ ಗಾಯಕವಾಡ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು, ನಗರಸಭೆ ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ರವರಿಂದ ಧ್ವಜಾ ರೋಹಣ ನೇರವೆರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.  ದ್ವಜಾರೋಹಣ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ  ಪೌರಾಯುಕ್ತರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ.ಬಿ.ಬಸಪ್ಪಾ ರವರು ಹಾಗೂ ನಗರಸಭಾ ಸದಸ್ಯರುಗಳು, ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ವರ್ಗದವರು, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಛೇರಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಿಬ್ಬಂಧಿ ವರ್ಗದವರು, ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಶಾಲಾ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರುಗಳು, ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯ ರುಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ನೇರವೆರಿಸಿದರು.  

           ಸದರಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಎಚ್.ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ, ಸಹಾಯಕ ಆಯುಕ್ತರು, ಉಪ-ವಿಭಾಗ ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ರವರು ಹಾಗೂ ನಗರದ ಗಣ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಹಾಜರಿದ್ದರು.

         ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ಬಸವಕಲ್ಯಾಣ  ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿರುವ ಸಮಸ್ತ ನಾಗರೀಕರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯಪಡಿಸುವುದೇನೆಂರೆ  ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ವಸತಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಗರ ಬಡತನ ನಿರ್ಮೂಲನ ಇಲಾಖೆಯು ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ಮತ್ತು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆದಾಯ ಗುಂಪಿನ ಬಡಜನರಿಗೆ ' ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿ ' ಮನೆ ನಿಮಾ್ಣ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಡ ಫಲಾನುಭವಿಗಳಿಂದ ಅರ್ಜಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸಿದೆ.
